Lawrence Ronald Jacobs was born in Detroit, MI in 1942. After receiving his BA in Architecture from the University of Michigan, he received his M.Arch from the Yale School of Architecture in 1976. A founding partner of Jacobs-Nicholaides Architects PC, Jacobs’ designs included the St. John’s University Law School, the Bank of Tokyo Trust Company in the Waldorf-Astoria, and the graduate center at the City University of New York. In 1977, his work on the Leito residence in Bedford, NY earned him an Architecture Record House Award. That same year, Jacobs began his own architectural firm in Manhattan. His illustrious career was cut short on March 21, 1991, when Jacobs died of AIDS at NYU Hospital.

He was 39 years old.
