Stan Warren Ziegler ’72 was born on September 29, 1950 in New York City and attended John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore, NY; He was a member of Branford College and majored in psychology, which he studied at the University of Oslo, Norway, during his junior year.  An accomplished singer, he was a member of the Russian Chorus, the Spizzwinks(?), and the Whiffenpoofs; He tutored local high school students in his spare time, and was a member of Skull and Bones; In 1979, he received his doctorate in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and went on to make a career as a clinical psychologist in California.

On the occasion of his fifteenth college reunion in 1987, he wrote to his classmates: “In the past ten years I’ve learned to take myself and life itself a good deal less seriously.  After approaching near death in 1973 from a chronic illness I became sick with during my sophomore year at Yale, I began to view life as something precious and worth savoring.  Reconciling this with what seemed like one hundred tedious years in graduate school getting my doctorate in clinical psychology was not easy.  After rather drastic medical intervention which required being fed solely through a catheter in my chest for four months, the course of my illness was reversed.  I returned to graduate school from my two years of internship to do my doctoral dissertation on psychological adjustment to the illness I have; an experience that pulled a great many things together for me.  I moved to Los Angeles from Austin after finishing my degree and met my lover and best friend Abel Villareal in 1981; Things are pretty terrific.”

Ziegler died on January 19, 1995.
